I’ll be running sessions discussing all things SMPTE 2110 and NMOS at an afternoon event on Thursday June 26th at Buckinghamshire New University in High Wycombe.

This is part of the ongoing series of events organised by members of RTS Tech Centre and SMPTE UK Section aimed at people who are ‘Mid-Career‘. I’m a personal member of both organisations and would highliy recommend them to anyone loking to develop their knowledge and network in the industry.

So what is ‘Mid-Careers‘? It’s a group that often gets left out of the evening networking events which are often more attended by those right at the start of their journey (Students and people looking to get into the industry) OR those more established who can afford the tie and expense of attending such events.

This event is a bit of an experiment – filling a whole afternoon with stimulating discussion and interactive workshops. Hopefully if it works out well it could become an annual thing. There will be some common events (Keynote, roundtable etc.) and then each attendees will pick 2 longer interactive workshops to attend – hopefully some will pick mine!

While there will be a nominal fee to attend the event I’d like to highlight that all contributors, including us, are giving our time to support this event for free. The organisers have also been seeking sponsors to support the plans for #AmpleRefreshments. Hopefully by charging a small fee it will reduce the chances of no-shows allow us to plan better.

If you’d like to attend please book early so we can gauge numbers – there is a limit so it’ll be first come first served!. Booking and full details of the event is over on the RTS website (click image to open event page in a new tab):

I’ll be bringing along the #BigPinkDemoKit (IP/2110 Rack) and will start off by telling the story of SDP files and how they are critical to the operation of NMOS – the open control protocol that’s essential for providing fully interoperable multi-vendor 2110 systems. I’ll no doubt also discuss what IPMX is and how it could be a great thing for broadcast despite it’s initial target of the ProAV use-cases.

I’ve been told not to have a planned presentation but you know me – I need my slides as I can only wave much hands around so much! I’m hoping to print out some slidebooks of key slides which will be useful references for attendees.

Like many of those involved in the day, I’ll be sticking around for the social event in the evening – We’ll find out if Mark Couto really can organise a P#$$-up in a brewery!

Hopefully see you there,
Ed!
