The first video by Veritasium tells the history of how film was a core component of Television until 1956 with the invention of the first practical video recorder by Ampex (BBC did create VERA in 1952 but it was never a commercial product – See Wikipedia for more on VERA).

These next videos by Technology Connections do good job of telling the story of analogue television and its key compoanent, the cathode ray tube (CRT) television.

Some technical points are not quite right but the effort he’s gone to in producing this video and making use of old displays in its making makes any errors forgivable!
